So I was educated just now on car seats. I opted for the "check" at the hospital instead of a 3 hour class. I'm glad I did b/c I'm sure in the class they showed crash videos and hurt kid statistics. I dont need to see that. And you'll see I got a LOT of info in just those 30 minutes.
Summary: My kid will probably scream and cry the entire time we are in the car b/c hes going to be rear facing with no toys until he's big enough for a booster seat. The seat belt has to go across their hips and not their stomach. So if you are ever in the situation where you have to drive my kid, you'll be driving my car where his seat is installed properly and he fits correctly.
They showed us how to properly tighten the harness in the infant seat and how it should sit on them and why its designed that way. It was really informative. If you are going to be taking my kid anywhere, you'll get a lesson from me on this. Its pretty much pointless to have a carseat unless you install and buckle it properly b/c they will just fly out of it in a wreck.
They said rear facing is the safest for a kid until the carseat cant hold them rear facing anymore (most convertible carseats are meant to be both), because it protects their spines in the event of a crash and their head wont whip forward. Most of the convertible ones will hold a kid up to like 40 pounds (i forget but it was as lot) or something rear facing. They even said mirrors are bad b/c when the kid whips back they can crack their head on it. This made me very sad b/c i want to use my mirror. Dallas drivers are really awful and i dont know where i am going half the time so its even more scary for me driving up here.
There was a guy there switching his seats to front facing and the ladies were ripping him a new one. He didnt seem to care, he wanted his kid to face forward. They said its up to the parents and most switch to front facing for convenience at around 12-18 months, but they don't recommend it. (they said they can bend their legs, they will deal with it, its their spine the seat is protecting)
I also discovered my explorer is really small. the carseat, even in the middle, touched the passenger seat (it was all the way back) and they said it couldnt so i had to move it up. i cant imagine how that works in smaller cars. i thought my car was big! false.
on a positive note, they were all raving about my carseat and said chicco is the best and easiest brand to install, they took it out of my car and made me re-do it and it was super easy. i had scott do it this weekend thinking i wouldnt be able to pregnant. they knew i could is why they showed me.
I failed to use capitalization when typing this. Sorry.

Random thoughts
The last few days and random thoughts.
Saturday we had lunch with new friends! Leanne was roommates with Kelly up here in Dallas and Kelly still lives in McKinney, so we met them for lunch at her parents house (with a pool!). It was a great time and we look forward to hanging out with them again soon. They are expecting a boy at the end of July. Very exciting!!!
Monday I went to Ft. Worth to visit Deann and her adorable twins. (Deann is my good friend Melissa's sister, Melissa from Tech, most of you met her I brought her to IL once and she was in my wedding) The twins are very good and very entertaining. I got to experience lunch time with them and I told Deann she needs to video tape it, everyone should see how hilarious it is. And it would be a good reminder to me when I am trying to feed ONE baby carrots. haha
Tuesday I went to the doctor. She was in a hurry cause someone was about to deliver, so it was just quick measurements and I was out of there. Easy trip. I did gain 3 pounds in 2 weeks however and this is slightly alarming to me, b/c I know its ALL baby and he is going to be huge. So I go back in 2 weeks for the strep b test and she'll check my cervix and then its weekly after that! It all went so fast and I'm ready to have a lap and be able to bend over again.
When I was leaving, I got in the elevator, a drug rep got in and the door was closing and I heard someone grunt/half yell ahh! So out of pure instinct (no brain power involved) I threw my hand into the closing door and stopped it and this old man hobbled up. He was so shocked that I had stopped the door. He talked to me all the way to the parking lot. People here are so nice! Apparently its rubbing off on me. (haha)
Oh yes and my CVS deal. Went in there (its the closest store to our apt) to see what their diaper selection was like and they were on sale! 11.99 to 8.99 and I had a $0.50 off coupon! So I grabbed a pack and a bottle of water and went to the register. The guy said 7.32. I was like... uh.... ok! No idea how they were that cheap, they rang up 5.99. Scott said I should go back and buy more. (I didnt)
Today I am going to the hospital for the car seat check. I stirred up a lot of controversy on fb when I posted a question about it. After much debate, I have left the seat in the middle strapped in with only the seat belt. If it is on the passenger side, Scott would be cramped and if its behind the drivers seat Scott couldnt drive at all. So its in the middle. On a related note, we are trying to sell the Jeep, there have been a lot of calls and interest but weather and scheduling hasnt allowed anyone to actually look at it. When we do sell it, we are getting a bigger suv (buying from my parents) and we'll decide at that time if I am going to take the bigger car or keep the explorer. It really doesnt matter to me, I only go to the doctor and grocery store so I'm letting Scott pick which car he wants to drive. (how nice of me!)
No plans this weekend. Probably just relaxing and taking a walk or two. I have been so tired lately. Next week we have a CPR class on Wednesday night and then no classes again until the 15th. I hate waiting around for these classes! I even looked at other hospitals and they are all full.
No one has looked at our house in a couple weeks. Very frustrating to say the least. With the holiday weekend coming up I'm guessing thats gonna set us back another week. School will be out really soon though, so hopefully people will be getting their butts in gear and buying houses. I dont know what we will do if it isn't sold in another month. We are praying hard.
I should take another belly pic but I'm too sleepy to mess with it.

34 weeks (no pic)
34 weeks today. My lilypie ticker says 42 days to go. Seems pretty short! Since I have so many random thoughts to share, I'm going to continue the list type blog entries for now.
Observations/happenings since the last post:
-Went to our first Prepared Childbirth class last night. It was actually the third class out of the series, due to the fact that I moved here so late and all their classes were full. So we are taking the first two sessions in June. Its not ideal but I wanted to make sure and get all 3 of them in. The class went well, the nurse teaching it was really nice. Scott didnt freak out or anything but lets all be glad there are smartphones with games on them. He needed to be distracted a few times.
-The hospital is amazing. I havent even had an official tour yet and I love it. I have heard amazing things about it and only seen a small portion of it but it doesnt even look/feel like a hospital. I drove past it 3 times and didnt know it was a hospital. Inside is very very nice. I'm hoping to do an official tour on Monday night. Here is the link: http://www.bmcf.com/ click on Womens Center at the top and pictures to see the labor/delivery/nursery areas.
-I found a kennel that is literally in the same parking lot as the hospital. I am going to call and annoy the crap out of them today with questions. I downloaded the paperwork and I have Raider's shot records all ready to go.
-Baby clothes/blankets and miscellaneous paraphanalia are all washed and put away. We are planning to go to the Harley store to see if they have any newborn sized outfits for him to wear home from the hospital. Very exciting.
-Raider went 2 weeks in the apt before peeing on the floor. He is so stubborn and distracted when I take him out at night, he wont go and then he has to go really really bad in the morning and Scott gets ready before taking him, and even then he can get distracted and not go. We have started keeping his leash shorter (so he feels more secure) and I have extended the amount of time between potty breaks so he HAS to go and will. He is still very interested in chasing animals of all sorts. Luckily it has only rained one day so I havent had to deal with that mess.
-Dusting, vacuuming, cloroxing and organizing a 900sf apartment is so much faster than a 2200sf 2-story house. I think the time I save is wasted on the extra time it takes to rinse/wash dishes in a 2 inch sink with no sprayer head. Seriously annoying.
-There is nothing good on TV between 11pm and 6pm. (meaning I only watch shows that are on from about 7-10pm) This is good and bad. It keeps me from vegging out all day so I wont get lazy and fat but also keeps me from relaxing or resting as much as I probably should.
-I dont have a new pic cause I dont feel any bigger. I think I've been the same size for a couple weeks now. I go to the doc on Tuesday so we will see.
-I met a pediatrician on Wednesday and I like her. The office is small but I think thats good cause we will get to know her better and it wont be crowded with snotty kids. When I went to meet her, I was the only one there. Its close to the hospital and only about 10 min from the apt. I really hope we can get a house on this side of town, as I am establishing doctors and loving the area a lot.
-We are meeting new friends on Saturday! The amazing Leanne Trott introduced me (via facebook) to her roommate in Dallas, Kelly. We have been talking and are having a bbq with her and her husband on Saturday in McKinney. I'm excited! She is about 5 weeks behind me in pregnancy so I'm sure our conversations will be really irritating to the husbands. LOL
-We are trying to sell the Jeep. Its on craigslist, ebay classifieds and autotrader.com. Hopefully it will sell sooner than our house is taking to sell. My dad is selling us his Denali, since he doesnt drive it that much (soccer van!) and Scott needs a more normal stable vehicle.
That's all I can think of right now.

Pics!
Finally took some pics yesterday!
View from front door into living room. There are built in bookshelves on either side of the entryway. A huge lifesaver since we have so much stuff.

View of the front door (see the bookcase) and kitchen from the couch. The stroller will be moving to the back of my car in a few weeks, but it fits quite nicely right there. (and is full of baby clothes I need to wash)

Tv/chair, other bookcase (small door is a HUGE awesome closet) taken from the eating area. Ray wanted to be in the pic.

Left half of the kitchen.

Right half of the kitchen. One good thing about it being so small is Raider cant sneak in and get in my way. He lays on the carpet at the edge of the wood. The dreaded electric stove.

Eating area/babys bedroom. Kitchen is to the right, see my office chair? The door to the patio is to the left. Its a very decent sized eating area for an apartment. Combined with the kitchen (why did they break it up so much?) its not much smaller than our house's kitchen.

The office. To the left is the kitchen doorway, to the right is the living room. Behind me is the eating area. Yea, I crammed an entire bedroom's worth of stuff in this space. (99% of our books went to storage) Good thing there are cabinets. Oh, see the cord going around the corner? The printer is sitting on the serving bar between the kitchen and living room. Nowhere else to put it.

Worlds smallest laundry room. Hot water heater hangs above the dryer. That door goes out to the garage. Oh, and with a front loader, you have to keep the washer door open to air out. Yeah so every night I have to run out and meet Scott and remind him not to run into it. On a positive note though, it doesnt shake at all anymore so that is good. Scott said it was really unlevel on the pedestal. Stupid Sears delivery ppl. Stealing my packing bolts and not leveling my washer.

Bedroom. Guest bedding is on top, along with 5 extra pillows. I have nowhere to put them so they just keep moving around the bedroom.

My "half" of the closet.

Scotts "half" of the closet. Its super small.

I was about to go out and get a pic of the front door and garage but it just started raining. Next time!
Oh, and I took this pic of myself yesterday too. Do I look bigger? I feel huge. And my hair is out of control. Its so windy here!

32 weeks 4 days
Hoping to have a pic soon! I located the camera, now I just have to get Scott to cooperate and take a pic of this belly.
And what a belly it is! I went to the doc today and according to her fancy machine, Baby Harkness is a whopping 5lbs 3oz and 17 inches long! I (of course) don't fully believe this b/c it just doesnt make sense that he would be that big and me not be HUGE. My friend Leanne is due July 8th (having a c-section June 29th) and her baby Andrew is only weiging in at 3.5lbs. My friend Stacy is due July 29th and her baby Reagan is weighing in at 4lbs 14oz. Scott is proud our kid is the biggest. I have no idea how it is possible, given that since I am not working I dont eat nearly as much as I used to. Everyone is saying, oh good maybe he will be early. Well, I would prefer he stay in there until July. We have 2 Harkness anniversaries (ours is the 18th), Gram's birthday (21st) and Aunt Tammy's birthday (27th). I wanted his to be in July so we could spread them out a little. We'll see how it goes!
So my new doctor! My Woodlands doctor recommended her b/c they are friends. Now when doctors say they are friends with each other, I dont really know what that means. You went to college together, maybe did a semester of residency or like buddies who still call and visit each other? Apparently these two are pretty good friends. They both went to school together and had a practice together for a year or so. My doctor is from here and is pregnant with her 2nd, so they decided to come back to this area to be closer to family. It was different for me going to a doctor's office with only 2 doctors, and only one of them an OB. My previous doctor was in a practice with 4-5 other OB's so the office was huge and there were lots of people always in the waiting room. The office was only 12 minutes from the apartment and I skipped the freeway. That was great. It is a pretty new building and was very nice. Dr. Holt met with me in her office to go over a few things before doing an ultrasound, which I appreciated. The ultrasound was fairly short but confirmed the position I thought him to be in. She measured his femur and head and came up with the weight. Since he is head down and facing inward, she was unable to get any pics. We'll see him soon enough!
Apartment update:
-Raider is slightly better at going on the leash. He did recently discover squirrels live in the yard and they climb trees. This is a problem.
-Vacuuming takes about 1/6 of the time it took in the house.
-Walmart is 4 minutes away.
-Groceries and every store, restaurant, shop and retail place you could possibly think of are within 10 minutes drive. Probably less than that. Its so great to be near things. On the other hand, when we have a house it will be noisier b/c the neighborhoods aren't as secluded and quiet as the ones in The Woodlands. Trade-offs.
-I unpacked the LAST BOX this afternoon. I'm too tired to put the clothes away though so either Scott will have to help me tonight or I will do it tomorrow.
-Our storage unit is full to the brim, so I am having to be creative how I store things in the apartment now. We should have kept a set of the garage shelves for this garage, I could really use the space.
-Space saver bags are really fun!
-Pics coming soon, when I have that last box of clothes put up.
-Nothing on our house yet. I think I'm gonna lower the price another couple k. Pray for that to work!

Bout time!
Well. I haven't posted in forever. I thought, hey maybe I'll write blog ideas in my notebook and type them later. Oh, better yet I'll set up the computer and type them then copy/paste when the internet is hooked up. As you can well imagine, neither happened. Internet finally got hooked up today and I have so many updates to read I dont even know where to begin. I have a few boxes to go through still, so I'm just skimming your blogs for now (and looking at cute kiddo pics).
So my last post was April 22nd. I have since finished my job, had a Texas baby shower, packed the entire house (well, mom packed it), moved to Plano, unpacked and tried to make some order of this place. I havent left the apt since I got here except to take Ray potty. I consider this a good thing. I've gotten a lot done and he is adjusting well.
A few observations so far:
-the dishwasher is insanely loud. this is a bad thing but could double as white noise possibly. tbd
-i hate electric stoves. i knew i preferred gas but now i know. my next house MUST have a gas option for the stove/oven. i cannot cook on electric and i am terrified of it.
-paying extra for a deep sink in our house was the greatest thing we did.
-if i can fit everything i want/need in this small place, maybe we can by a smaller house.
-one bathroom with one sink is not enough for me, scott and raider.
-showers in bathtubs are the most wonderful thing ever. our shower in the house was so small.
-having a yard is a huge deal. even if its really small (like they are here in dallas)
-trash pickup on the curb 3 days a week is amazing. and will be super when we have diapers in the trash
-not working is more tiring than working. and i hear it gets worse with a baby.
-i no longer have a hose connection so Raider is going to get very stinky.
-you can never have enough closets
-space saver bags might be the best invention of the millennium
-my insanity has paid off several times so far. translation: i was right.
-Raider did amazing in the car on the way here. Proof I can train him to do anything.
-I see my new doc Tuesday.
I took some pics on my phone yesterday as I was unpacking. I'll take more when the boxes are all out. They are on facebook. I'm too lazy to copy/paste them here.
Hopefully more updates soon.
